George William Eells

George William Eells, 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 22nd 2011 while residing at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon. Born on July 27, 1932, George was the eldest of 3 children born to William Kilpatrick (affectionately known as “WK or Bill”) and Alice Endicott Eells. Their family farm, which had been home to four generations of Eells before them, was in Jasper County, southwest of Reeds, MO. George attended Union grade school and graduated from Sarcoxie High school. He then joined the army along with a good friend in order to serve his country. He was discharged six months later, due to medical reasons. He was married to his first wife Ann St. John and had two children, Rebecca and William K. Eells. He then moved to Balavia, NY where he worked for an in-home ice cream delivery service, Flavorite Supreme Ice Cream. George was a man of many trades, as he later went on to work in the sales department of Ralston Purina Feeds. Sales were George’s true calling, as he was such a people’s person. He soon found his niche traveling the East Coast selling pianos and organs. Known affectionately as the “Ramblin’ Man”, George made his way across the East Coast, meeting people and creating memories along the way. It was during this time that he discovered the beautiful Panama City Beach, where the Ramblin’ Man settled for several years after meeting his wife Gwendolyn Constanz and having his daughter, Bethany Eells, who survives him. Bethany’s husband, Brooke Porter of the U.S. Navy and her three children, Levi Porter, Lakin Porter and Login Porter also survive him. George’s sister, Wilma Mestker and her husband Richard of Carthage, MO also survive him. George enjoyed music, baseball and had a love of Nascar. Known by all as a wonderful storyteller of his memories of his past travels and many life adventures, George never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who have had the blessing of knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother at the age of 5 and his wife. Graveside services will be held at 10:00a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 at Dudman Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home. Ulmer Funeral Home.
