Marty Javon Jones

Marty Javon Jones, 46, passed away at home on Saturday, April 24, 2010 after a courageous battle with melanoma surrounded by family. Marty was born on August 19, 1963 in Clovis, New Mexico to Donald and Linda (Kube) Jones. He was a 1981 graduate of Carthage Sr. High; and Missouri Southern State College with an Associate degree followed by a Bachelors degree in 1991. Marty was Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage, where he and his wife, Cheryl Murray were married on June 21, 1985. Marty had been employed with KMT Waterjet in Baxter Springs, Kansas for 25 years, currently as Technical Service Manager. He was a dedicated employee that loved his work and instilled in his children his exemplary work ethics. Marty is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cheryl, daughter, Meagan and son Kaleb of the home; his mother, Linda Smith of Carthage; sister, Marla Shumny and husband Mike, of Carthage; step-sisters, Shirley Darby and husband, Jim of Grand Lake, OK., and Kaye Jones and husband, Don of Reston, VA., uncle Dean Jones of Osceola, MO.; mother-in-law, Margie Murray of Carthage; sister-in-law, Brenda Spry and husband, Jerry of Carthage; special nephew, Taylor Reese and wife, Olivia, of Olathe, KS.; and other nieces and nephews and many cherished friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Jones in 1967, step-father, Roy Smith, step-sister, Diana Marler and father-in-law, Leon Murray Marty loved to spend time with his family followed closely by his love of flying, both remote and piloted planes, he obtained his private pilot’s license in 1991. He shared his love of John Deere equipment and farming with his son, Kaleb and cherished time he and his family spent riding his motorcycles. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Carthage. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 also at the First Baptist Church. Special thanks to Avalon Hospice for the wonderful care given to Marty these past few months. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Avalon Hospice of Joplin, First Baptist Church of Carthage or Gideon’s International in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
