Irene C. “Oma” DeVrieze, 91, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022. She was born in Indonesia on February 9, 1931 the youngest of 9 children. She and her husband, John T. DeVrieze, were united in marriage in Indonesia on April 12, 1955. They came to the United States to make a better life for their family. They lived in Buffalo, NY until they retired to Cameron, North Carolina. Irene moved to Carthage to live with her son and family after the death of John on May 5, 2011. She was an avid gardener, loved to cook, and enjoyed being around children, especially her grandchildren. Irene is survived by one son Frank DeVrieze (Lynne) of Carthage; two daughters Mary Fitzsimmons (Mike) of Depew, New York and Jen Stoddard (Brian) of Lockport, New York; one grandson Jeremy Stoddard; three granddaughters Abigail DeVrieze, Katie (Fitzsimmons) Wood, and Kelly (Fitzsimmons) Evans; and two great granddaughters Avery Wood and Hazel Wood. Irene’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a private family service held at a later date in Buffalo, New York. Online condolences may be made at www.ulmerfh.com.
